White Copal from Chiapas Mexico - Ritual Quality

Copal incense is a great energy tool to use in your meditations. It is linked to the Crown Chakra, deepening your awareness and encouraging pure thoughts during meditation. Copal also helps to strengthen the auric body, by removing any energetic blockages. It is particularly useful in times of stress or even to relieve feelings of depression, as it helps you to change your state of mind. 

Copal Blanco melts completely into the charcoal and contains no water-soluble-gum as many other incense resins do. This lends softness to its smoke, but also means one should be careful to not add too much to the charcoal all at once or the pooling liquid resin may extinguish your coal.

Caution: Mexican white copal, the resin of a plant in the Burseraceae family, is rare. Some dealers deliberately confuse this expensive resin with copal from Indonesia and the Philippines, more commonly known as Manila copal (or Agathis dammara), which is readily available and much cheaper.

How to Burn Resins: Light the charcoal with matches or lighter for about 20 seconds until it self-ignites. Use tongs to hold it up (never hold it with your fingers alone or you might get burned). Place the lit charcoal in a bowl or any incense burner.  Let the charcoal warm for a few minutes. (It turns gray around the edges when it is ready)  Now you are ready! Add a small amount of resin on top of the charcoal. The resin will burn and soon release essential, aromatic oils through the smoke. Continue to place resins or powder on charcoal as they burn out and smoke decreases, for a continuous burn.
